Auralex® Acoustics, Inc., the world’s leading brand of acoustical treatments, is pleased to announce that its RLX: Room Layout eXpress™ acoustical treatment app is available as a standalone app available on the Apple App Store and Android App Store starting in January 2019. The RLX app is an intuitive, automated treatment app that is specifically designed to give instantaneous recommendations for various small room types and gives users the ability quickly get acoustical treatment suggestions on their mobile devices. As a result, the app takes a lot of the guesswork out of determining what is the best and most effective acoustical treatment solutions for a specific space.

The app is both easy to use and returns immediate results. To begin, simply select your “Room Type.” If your room fits more than one, select the one that best fits your situation. You can also use the “Edit Room” function to view multiple results for the same dimensions previously entered. The kit recommendations provided are based on both the type of room selected, and the suggested amount of necessary acoustic treatment required based on your specific square footage with our comprehensive line of Absorption, Bass Trapping, and Diffusion products. You are also able to input various types of equipment and gear used in your room. The app will use this information to provide suggestions on applicable ISO Series™ Products that can further help your room acoustics.

When you are ready to make a purchase, a number of our largest Authorized Auralex Dealers are listed, or you may enter your zip code to receive the contact information of the nearest Authorized Auralex Dealer. If you would like to have a permanent copy of your room results and more information, simply use the form on the app to have them emailed to you.

The major release: Cubase 10

Steinberg today showcased its flagship DAW, Cubase Pro 10, alongside the smaller siblings, Cubase Artist 10 and Cubase Elements 10.

Cubase Pro 10 brings all the technological advancements to the table, the German expertise of which has been accumulated over three decades of extraordinary contributions to the industry. Cubase Artist 10 is a slimmer edition, offering the same core technologies as Cubase Pro alongside many dedicated production tools. Instantly accessible, Cubase Elements 10 is the first step into the world of music production with Cubase.

“This version is a milestone in the innovational history of Cubase. With nearly 30 years to look back on, Cubase Pro 10 encompasses everything required from a DAW — no matter who you are, no matter what your background, no matter what your musical experience,” comments Matthias Quellmann, senior marketing manager for Cubase.

Cubase Pro 10 exclusives

Available to Cubase Pro 10, VariAudio 3 is the perfect and eminently powerful pitch correction tool, introducing many enhancements for editing micro pitch levels and adjusting formant shifts. Another novelty is MixConsole Snapshots for saving and recalling a current mix within the mixer, or for creating and comparing alternate mixes of a project. Cubase Pro 10 also introduces Audio Alignment, a great new feature that allows users to align stacked recordings extremely fast so that vocal and other tracks are in complete sync. REVerence, the convolution reverb in Cubase Pro, includes now 20 new impulse responses, covering a range of vintage reverbs. Smaller feature additions and enhancements include AAF import/ export for exchanging data with different systems, improved editing to picture, and the Steinberg Virtual Reality production suite that offers tools for producing VR content.

Amazing additions to Pro and Artist

Both the Pro and Artist editions of Cubase 10 now include Distroyer, a remarkable addition to the list of effects processors that infuses asymmetric distortion. And side-chaining has also been touched on: new to both Pro and Artist is the simplified side-chain setup that completes the signal routing with only a few clicks. Since both editions feature the unique Note Expression capability, the next step now was to offer MIDI Polyphonic Expression (MPE) support for multidimensional controllers.

Family features for Pro, Artist and Elements

In all editions of version 10, the Channel Strip has undergone significant changes, featuring new metering elements in each module, providing immediate visual feedback and further facilitating the mixing process. Groove Agents SE 5, one of many impressive instruments within Cubase, boasts many enhancements to its user interface and comes with an abundance of new acoustic and electronic drum content. The audio engine has also been refined, now supporting 32-bit integer and 64-bit floating-point audio for recording, importing/exporting, and converting. Plug-ins have been redesigned and can now be dragged from the Media Rack and dropped directly into the project, creating an instrument track automatically, while the user interface supports HiDPI for high-resolution displays.

The additional content in Cubase 10 rounds out the extensive feature list: 5 GB of sounds and loops cover various genres, produced by renowned artists the likes of Florian Meindl, Rawtekk, Beat Butcha and many more.

Quellmann continues: “The audio engine in Cubase delivers pristine, unprecedented, ‘unheard-of’ quality: you’ll never hear the DAW, you won’t perceive unexpected coloring to your recordings, you’ll forget it’s even there — the sound quality is literally unheard of. The editing and production tools are amazing, providing a smooth, firm foundation for your creative input. The new aesthetics of the user interface ensures focused and expedited usability, while the production-grade content included within Cubase is not only fun to use but offers a great starting point to creating any style of music.

“With all the effort that we have put into this major iteration and considering the positive feedback from professional recording engineers and producers throughout its development, I assure that Cubase 10 pushes the envelope beyond the many expectations.”

Waves introduces the Dave Audé Producer Pack

Waves Audio (booth 15302), the world’s leading developer of professional audio signal processing technologies and leading maker of audio plugins for mixing, music production, mastering, sound design, broadcast, post-production and live sound, introduces the Dave Audé Producer Pack, eight plugins hand-picked by GRAMMY®-winning music producer Dave Audé (Sting, Rihanna, Selena Gomez, Lady Gaga), featuring a versatile selection of virtual instruments, effects and mixing tools for your music production needs.

With more number-one dance club hits than any other producer on the Billboard charts, Dave Audé is one of the music industry’s most in-demand producers. He’s put together a diverse collection of premium instruments, plus vocal and drum mixing essentials, to give your tracks that industry sheen and polish.

Jam-packed with precision sample libraries and effects to light up your creativity, this pack is perfect whether you’re just starting out or are looking to expand an existing collection of production tools.

Dave Audé comments about his Producer Pack plugins:

  • Codex Wavetable Synth : “If you’re producing anything that sounds new and modern, you need this synth. If you want to sound original and not use the same sounds and patches as everyone else, then you need to dive head first into this one.”
  • Sibilance : “Everyone needs this transparent, easy-to-use de-esser in their arsenal – essential for anyone producing or mixing any type of vocal.”
  • Smack Attack : “Another essential tool for any modern producer. At the end of a mix, use this to pop up missing percussion tracks – I use it on loops to soften up kick or snare drums that might be fighting with the main drums in the mix.”
  • OneKnob Pumper : “Who really has time to set up sidechains? That’s why this auto-sidechaining plugin is used in all my sessions to get the bass and kick pumping together. Quick, easy automatic ducking effect – with just one knob.”
  • Electric Grand 80 Piano : “This is a beautiful piano from my favorite era – the 80s.”
  • Electric 88 Piano : “A great-sounding 70s Rhodes-style piano; ultra-dope with fuzz or distortion-type effects.”
  • Electric 200 Piano : “This Wurlitzer-type piano will be your go-to when you’re looking for that Beach Boys/Supertramp-type sound. It suits anything from retro 60s, 70s and 80s to modern pop and R&B.”
  • Bass Slapper : “I don’t play bass guitar, but I do play piano! This is as close to a real bass as you’re gonna get. My favorite thing about it is being able to move the fretboard; and the effects are a big bonus.”

Dave Audé Producer Pack features:

  • Eight industry-standard instruments and plugins for music producers
  • Hand-picked by GRAMMY-award winning producer/DJ/remixer Dave Audé
  • Includes five premium synth, piano and bass instruments

Proco Sound updates Evolution product line

RHC, manufacturer and supplier of a wide array of audio, video and lighting equipment, unveils its updated HYPERLINK “http://www.procosound.com” ProCo Sound EVOLUTION product line of instrument and microphone cables at the 2019 NAMM Show (RHC Booth #11510).

The ProCo EVOLUTION series of upgraded, affordable cables are engineered for sonic performance with dual shielding and 100 percent oxygen-free wire, which is extruded at the company’s Massachusetts wire facility. The entire line has all OFC (Oxygen-free copper) conductors and shielding for long lasting protection against signal degradation from oxidation.

Great-sounding and built to be durable enough for daily use, these cables are equipped with a ‘soft touch’ jacket and Neutrik connectors. Featuring genuine Neutrik XLR’s and 1/4″ connectors with gold contacts and 360-degree strain relief, ProCo Sound’s EVOLUTION line is designed for sustained performance and ultimate pull strength.

The EVOLUTION line’s maximum density spiral shield provides incredible EMI/RFI shield protection and excellent flexibility. In addition, EVOLUTION quad mic and patch cables reduce EMI/RFI interference by as much as 90 percent over standard two-wire designs. The updated EVOLUTION line of cables is ideal for a variety of applications including live/touring musicians as well as fixed install-type facilities like theatres, concert halls, houses of worship, auditoriums and stadiums.

“We are excited to introduce our upgraded EVOLUTION product line of instrument and microphone cables at the 2019 NAMM Show,” says Darius Seabaugh, Vice President of Marketing for RHC. “EVOLUTION products must pass stringent quality control measures before they leave our factories – we control the processes and QC measures from beginning to end. Since we internally control the complete pipeline from wire extrusion through manufacturing to final testing, we are able to pass along cost savings that other manufacturers simply cannot offer. This enables us to provide incredible value to music makers worldwide.”

Eventide releases new instant phaser Mk II – Own a piece of audio history

Recording effects and technology pioneers from Eventide are proud to announce the release of the Instant Phaser Mk II plug-in for engineers, producers and musicians using Mac/PC. Crafted from the original analog hardware that Eventide created in 1972, the “Instant Phaser” sound has been captured and fashioned for modern-day versatility. The Instant Phaser Mk II delivers the original sonic character and retains the same look and feel of the the first rackmount electronic effects box to ever hit the studio. Harness the effect that was used on countless iconic recordings – such as Led Zeppelin’s “Kashmir”, and furnish your mixes with this “Instant” classic. For a limited time, the Instant Phaser Mk II plug-in is available for only $37*.

Restoring the 45 year old hardware and developing software that sounds like the original was no walk in the park:

“A true recreation of the Instant Phaser had to satisfy not only our ears but also the ears for the studio owners and the pro audio community who still own and use the original hardware.”

“A strict digital simulation of an analog component is precise. Components in the real world are not. A 0.1 uF capacitor in cold precise code will be exact while a real world 0.1 uF cap’s actual value will fall within some range close to, but never exactly, 0.1 uF. We discovered that the imprecision of the values of the analog components are key to the Instant Phaser’s sonic character. The challenge was to write code that captured that imprecision.”

“This isn’t your typical phaser plug-in, this is owning a piece of history. We’re pleased to release an authentic recreation of the world’s first and cherished rackmount electronic effects processor.”

Anthony Agnello, Eventide’s Managing Director

Features:

Phasing Control:

  • Manual mode allows for precise automation of the phasing effect
  • Oscillator modulates the phasing at a user defined rate
  • Envelope follower allows the input signal to drive the phase effect, and can accept input from a sidechain source
  • Remote mode maps the phasing control to a modwheel for tactile manipulation of the phasing

Pseudo Stereo:
Like the original hardware, the Instant Phaser Mk II provides a pair of de-correlated outputs offering three different sonic characteristics “Shallow”, “Deep”, and “Wide” for creating a stereo image. Musicians, engineers and producers can use these effects to turn flat-sounding mono guitars into monstrous stereo leads or make a single channel synthesizer fill out the soundscape of the mix.

The Passage of Time:
Eventide’s analysis of their 45+ year old Instant Phaser unit revealed that not only is the analog world imprecise, but it is also ever-changing. As components age, their values drift. In order to match the sound of an Instant Phaser that has been sitting in a rack for all those years, they decided to add an “Age” feature. Simply set the “Age” to “0” to mimic a brand new, perfectly tuned Phaser, or dial in the effect of time passing. Crank the age to “100” and hear how the unit will sound long after the last glacier has melted.

Price and Availability:
The Instant Phaser Mk II plug-in is available for Mac & PC and is compatible with popular DAWs, in AAX, VST2, and AU formats for an introductory price* of just $37 from your favorite plug-in dealer or from evetintideaudio.com

Registered owners of the Eventide Anthology X or Anthology XI bundles can get the Instant Phaser Mk II as a FREE download, available immediately from eventideaudio.com

*After February 28, 2019, the price of the Instant Phaser Mk II software will be $129.
